The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Tuesday banned all television channels from airing news or reports on the F-9 Park rape case.

The ban was issued after it was found that some satellite TV channels were airing news reports with the victim’s identity being revealed, which is in violation of Clause 8 of PEMRA Electronic Media (Programmes and Advertisements) Code of Conduct 2015.

PEMRA has warned that non-compliance could result in suspension of the license of the television channel in the public interest.

The F-9 rape case has caused outrage across the country, with the National Assembly Deputy Speaker directing the police chief to take action against the perpetrators and submit a report within 24 hours.

The police have so far been unable to arrest the culprits, but have issued a sketch of one of the suspects and are working on geo-fencing to trace them.

The victim had gone to the park with a male colleague when they were stopped at gunpoint by two men and taken to a jungle where she was beaten, raped, and threatened not to return to the park at that time.

The police have collected evidence from the crime scene and are investigating the case.
