PM Shehbaz fires broadside at Imran Khan over 'politics of lies'

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday the politics of PTI Chairman Imran Khan was based on lies which are getting exposed by the day.

In a tweet, he said Imran Khan’s antics and somersaults continued to disappoint the nation. He said the “only constant is his desperation to get back into power even if it involves plunging the country into a protracted period of instability”.

The remarks come a day after the PTI chief lashed out at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, claiming, “Nawaz wanted to debar me from politics and send to jail.”

“These people were only concerned with saving their money and were afraid the PTI would come to power,” the deposed premier said. The society suffers as a result of torture on those with less power, he added.

Citing the example of the developed countries, Mr Khan said, “In the developed countries, there is a supremacy of law.”
In response to the LHC’s decision to hold elections in Punjab within 90 days, Mr Khan praised the judiciary, saying the PTI had high expectations of the judiciary.

He feared the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) would mount pressure on the judiciary. “The masses were looking up to the judiciary to protect the constitution,” Mr Khan said.

He recalled his call for snap elections to get the country out of its quagmire.

Mr Khan referred to former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa as “the super king,” saying he “used to take all the decisions by himself.” “The former army chief said that the United States is not happy with me,” added the PTI chief.

Speaking about the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mr Khan said, “The country will face negative consequences due to the agreement with the IMF.”

Anchorperson Imran Riaz released after court dismisses charges against him

YouTuber and anchorperson Imran Riaz has been released following a court order that discharged him from charges of interference in official duties.

Imran Riaz’s lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, confirmed the news on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Media reports indicate that on May 29, Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Justice Aamer Farooq, allowed Imran Riaz to perform Hajj. However, despite the court’s permission, he was barred from travelling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj on June 3 and had to return home, stating his intent to seek court intervention again.

On June 12, the Islamabad High Court once more permitted Imran Riaz to proceed with Hajj. Yet, on the same day, he was arrested at Lahore Airport, clad in ihram, just as he was about to depart.

A case under Section 406 for breach of trust was filed against him, but the Model Town Court in Lahore dismissed these charges on June 13. Nonetheless, he was rearrested in connection with another case.

This time, Imran Riaz was accused in a case registered at Sarwar Road Police Station in Lahore for allegedly interfering with official duties by forcibly driving his vehicle through an airport checkpoint, damaging a barrier.

However, on June 14, the Cantt Court in Lahore discharged Imran Riaz from the interference charges, leading to his release as per the court’s order.
