It’s official now. The upcoming Indian Jones movie is the last time Harrison Ford appears in the famous role that he has played for decades, which will also be last of the series.

Kathleen Kennedy, who is the Lucasfilm president, told Dagobah Dispatch – an entertainment weekly that it was Harrison’s last entry. Harrison played the role in five Indiana Jones movies.

She said they were not going to produce another Indiana Jones movie by introducing a new actor to replace Ford. One can easily recall that several actors have played the role of James Bond, but it isn’t the case with Indiana Jones.

“I mean, truthfully, right now, if we were to do anything, it might be in series television down the road, but we’re not doing anything to replace Indiana Jones,” Kennedy said.

“This is it. It’s five movies that Harrison Ford did. And Harrison is so specific and so unique to creating this role. We just… Steven [Spielberg] agrees, we just wouldn’t do that.”

Earlier, James Mangold – the director – had said, “My legendary collaborators and I are very excited to share a brand new and final Indiana Jones adventure with you!”.

At Cannes Festival, Ford had told journalist, “I love to work and I love this character and I love what it brought into my life.” “Is it not evident?” the 80-year-old added, when asked why he was setting aside the role now.
