PM Shehbaz forms committees for ‘Economic Revival Plan’

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday formed apex, executive, and implementation committees for the “Economic Revival Plan”.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal would head the executive committee while PM’s aide would head the implementation committee. As for sessions, the apex committee would hold session every three months, the executive committee would hold it every month, while the implementation committee would hold session every 15 days.

Sources said the Special Investment Facilitation Council summoned a session on Thursday and the implementation committee would prepare a roadmap on foreign investment. “Ongoing projects with Gulf countries will also be reviewed,” sources added.

The implementation committee would also ponder upon recommendations on oil refinery policy and foreign investment in airports. The committee will prepare a roadmap for projects of primary importance.

The implementation committee, sources said, would also shortlist primary projects, adding that the establishment of green field oil refinery would also be taken into consideration. “The federal government expects an investment of $100 billion in five years,” sources added.
