The committee constituted by the government to decide the fate of Pakistan cricket team’s tour to India for the World Cup on Thursday asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to ensure foolproof security of the cricket team during the high-octane event.
A meeting of the committee was held under the chair of Foreign Minister Bilawal-Bhutto Zardari. The committee considered pros and cons of Pakistani team’s participation in the upcoming World Cup in India.
Sources said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) had agreed to send the team to India. However, it asked the ICC to ensure foolproof security for the Pakistan team in the mega event.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Information Minister Marrriyum Aurangzeb and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar agreed to send the team to India provided the internation cricket body assured it of security.
Meanwhile, Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Ehsanur Rehman Mazari and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira opposed sending the Pakistan team to India for the World Cup.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf will inform the ICC about the government’s decision.
