At least five people, including labourers and a passer-by, were killed and four others wounded when an under-construction building collapsed in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony on Wednesday, rescue officials said.

A private media outlet citing Saqib Khan, the station house officer (SHO) of the Shah Faisal Colony Police Station, reported that labourers were in the process of laying a prefab cemented roof of the second floor when the old roof of a 40-yard plot caved in, killing four labourers and a passer-by.

Rescue officials rushed to the spot and pulled out the bodies from the debris using heavy machinery.

The four injured labourers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
