Appellate tribunal rejects PTI founder’s appeal to contest polls from NA-122

An appellate tribunal on Wednesday rejected PTI founder’s appeal against decision of returning officer denying him to contest general elections from NA 122, going to be held on Feb 8.

Lahore High Court Judge Justice Tariq Nadeem conducted hearing of the PTI founder’s appeal to contest election from NA 122.

The tribunal dismissed PTI founder’s appeal against rejection of his nomination papers.

Justice Tariq Nadeem had reserved his judgement on Tuesday after hearing the case. It may be recalled that the returning officer had rejected PTI founder’s nomination papers to contest polls from NA 122 on December 30.

Meanwhile, an election tribunal accepted appeal of PTI leader Yasmin Rashid and allowed her to contest upcoming general elections.

The former provincial health minister was given go ahead by the tribunal. Lahore High Court Judge Justice Tariq Nadeem conducted hearing of the appeal filed by Rashid against RO’s decision.

The tribunal declared RO’s decision as null and void and permitted Rashid to vie for election from NA 130 (Lahore).

In another appeal, the tribunal allowed Sher Afzal Marwat to contest polls from NA 32.  

Meanwhile, an election tribunal declared transgender Nayab Ali eligible to contest polls. An election tribunal of Islamabad High Court upheld decision of the returning officer and rejecting the appeal allowed Nayab to vie for election. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir announced the decision reserved earlier.
