A special committee of the National Assembly on Tuesday decided to seek assistance from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for investigation into an audio leak allegedly involving the son of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar and a PTI ticket holder.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the 10-member committee, chaired by Aslam Bhootani, an MNA from Balochistan. The investigation agency will submit a report to the committee after completing its probe.

Mr Bhootani remarked that former CJP’s son Najam Saqib and the PTI candidate could appear before the committee to present their stance, adding: “We are not against any institution or a person but horse trading”. He said the investigation into the matter would fulfill legal requirements.

The committee will send a letter to the FIA to initiate probe into the audio leak.

The audio tape surfaced on April 29 in which Najam could be heard demanding a reward for a job done for an enthusiast seeking PTI ticket for upcoming general elections in Punjab.

In the audio, Najam can be heard informing the person on the other end that his father had worked very hard to get the job done. The man on the other side, presumed to be PTI ticket hopeful Abuzar Chaddhar, said he would come to meet Najam’s father after getting the ticket. Najam can also be heard asking Chaddhar to meet his father the same day.

Meanwhile, in conversation with another caller, identified as Mian Uzair, Najam can be heard asking for delivery of the goods, not less than 120.

Subsequently, the National Assembly adopted a motion empowering the speaker to constitute a committee to probe the audio clip. The National Assembly Secretariat issued a circular on May 2 notifying formation of a 10-member committee.

Bhootani, a former FIA officer who was elected from wadar-Lasbela NA-272 constituency as an independent candidate and deserted PTI-led coalition last year and voted against Imran Khan in the no-confidence motion, was named chairman of the committee.

We are now fighting our own case in AJK: Sheikh Rashid

Former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said on Tuesday he had already predicted that May 1 to June 20 would be important for the government.

Speaking to media persons before attending the anti-terrorism court, former interior minister Sheikh Rashid said Kashmiris were shocked over what happened over there.

“We were fighting the case of people living in the occupied Kashmir but now we are fighting our own case (in Azad Kashmir),” he said. He said people who were arrested in Rawalpindi on Tuesday should be released.

“It is very unfair that Kashmiris were arrested from their homes,” the AML head said. He said the brave men of police were getting thrashing from trans persons.

“When I went abroad, everyone was talking about these trans persons. They (policemen) had entered our houses and took away money, jewellery and children.”

The senior politician said, “We are observing silence and restraint till June 30. During this period we will give them the right advice. We advise them to release the Kashmiris. India is taking advantage of the situation.”

The former minister said the government should take immediate notice of the illegal measures taken by some people.

“If I am summoned in the 190 million pound reference, I will definitely attend the inquiry,” he said. He said the NAB Rawalpindi had told the high court that they did not want to arrest Sheikh Rashid.

Former minister Fawad Chaudhry gets pre-arrest bail in Zille Shah murder case

Former information minister Fawad Chaudhry has been granted pre-arrest bail in the Zille Shah murder case.

Lahore High Court judge Anwaarul Haq Pannun took up Chaudhry’s interim bail petition on Tuesday.

During the proceedings, the public prosecutor contended that Chaudhry was accused of hiding the facts, adding that he did not tell the federation that Zille Shah had been hit by a motorcar.

At this, Justice Pannun asked the prosecutor whether or not the charge against Fawad Chaudhry was bailable. He answered in the affirmative.
