Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday castigated PTI Chief Imran Khan saying he wanted to destroy the country’s political and legal system while being on trial for corruption.

Answering questions put by former premier Imran Khan with counter questions on Twitter, he said he wanted to ask Mr Khan some questions based on irrefutable points including “politics characterised by white lies, U-turns, and attacks on state institutions”, “lowering the judiciary to serve his vested interests”, and “solid facts proven over the last years”.

Question 1: It has been your political strategy to degrade Pakistan Army after your ouster from power in 2022. “Had you not been staining the image of the Army and the intelligence agencies even before you were attacked in Wazirabad?”

Question 2: Which legal way did you opt for other than issuing threats on daily basis and levelling baseless allegations? You refused to cooperate with the federal government and boycotted the court proceedings. You had never been interested in unearthing the truth but you used the condemnable Wazirabad incident for your political scoring.

Question 3: Who gave a go ahead to run a malicious campaign against Pakistan Army and martyrs after an Army helicopter had crashed? Which political party’s troll brigade manifested a new and unimaginably low trend in Pakistan’s politics by demeaning martyrs? Does the country need an enemy while you are alive?

Question 4: Who used religion for political purposes? Who put political opponents in danger by introducing religious connotations in politics? Did your party not justify harassment of a woman minister and other members of the government’s delegation while disrespecting the Masjid-e-Nabvi?

The PM concluded by saying that as Mr Khan reckoned the country had turned to a jungle, he would advise him to stay away because facts were bitter and destructive. “Let’s leave it for another day,” he added.

Earlier, former PM Khan had been taken into custody by the NAB on the premises of the Islamabad High Court on allegations of corruption, later “explained in detail” by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, linked to the Al-Qadir Trust
