Doctors fear for girl's life as her condition deteriorates

Doctors at the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) described the condition of a teenage maid, who was tortured allegedly by the wife of a judge, as serious and next 48 hours crucial for her life.

Rizwana, 14, is under treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital since July 24.

LGH Chief Executive Prof Al-fareed Zafar declared the next 48 hours highly crucial for Rizwana saying that a special board treating her fears that she may need the ventilator support.

He said that the girl’s mother had suspected that Rizwana had been poisoned by her employer(s) during domestic violence in Islamabad.

Her blood sample has been sent for laboratory test after her complained, Dr Zafar added.

Rizwana, a resident of Sargodha, was shifted to the LGH in critical condition on July 24.

Dr Zafar said an emergency meeting of the board was called when the duty doctors informed him about the deteriorating condition of the girl.

According to the board, her wounds were severely infected. Bronchoscopy examination revealed that one of her lungs was infected and the other has blood clots due to which breathing was difficult for her. That was why oxygen saturation level in her blood was falling.

He said that the girl has an infection in her blood which has spread throughout the body. Her platelets have increased from 12,000 to 24,000 and the haemoglobin is 7 which was dangerously low.

Dr Zafar said Rizwana has been diagnosed with sepsis and she was a suspected Covid patient and her samples had been sent for diagnosis of Covid.

It may be recalled that Rizwana was allegedly subjected to brutal torture by the wife of civil judge Asim Hafeez, deputed in Islamabad for stealing gold jewellery.

Her family said that the girl was working as a servant at the civil judge’s house in Islamabad for six months and she was not paid her salary.

£190mn scandal: Accountability court adjourns hearing until May 15

An accountability court on Monday adjourned the hearing of the £190 million scandal case against the PTI founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, until May 15.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana heard the case at Adiala Jail. PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, alongside NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and his team were present.

Lawyers representing the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, including Zaheer Abbas Chaudhry, Intizar Panjutha, and Shoaib Shaheen, were also in attendance.

Requests for medical examinations of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, as well as a meeting with Saeeda Warsi, were filed by respondent lawyers. This was approved by the court.

During the hearing, statements from three NAB witnesses were recorded, and the cross-examination of two was completed. So far, statements of 30 witnesses were recorded while cross-examination of 19 was done.

CM Maryam inaugurates skill development programme for youth

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday inaugurated the ‘Chief Minister Skill Development Programme’ for young students.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the chief minister said that the PML-N didn’t give petrol bombs in the hands of the youth.

“We have selected 1000 youngsters for this project including 600 boys and 400 girls,” said CM Maryam Nawaz.

She added that the courses were introduced in the programme keeping in view the requirements of the job market for the very first time.

The girls actively participated in the skill development programme and we’ll try to get them jobs even before the completion of the course, she added.

The chief minister was of the view that PML-N didn’t teach the youth to attack our security forces.

She added that the projects of public welfare initiated by the PML-N are hampered in Punjab. The Orange Train was also delayed for several months, she added.

She also made a request to the judiciary to review its decision of stopping the projects of Punjab government.

Omar Ayub demands judicial commission to probe May 9 events

Opposition Leader in National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan expressed concerns over the current state of democracy in Pakistan.

Addressing the National Assembly session on Monday, the opposition leader called for the formation of an independent judicial commission to investigate the May 9 events.

Omar Ayub stated that he was appointed as the opposition leader by his leader. He highlighted the essence of upholding the narrative of the PTI founder.

He also criticised the lack of significant change in President Asif Zardari’s speeches over the years and regretted the absence of true democracy in the country.

The opposition leader objected to the involvement of establishment in politics.

He raised concern over the disappearance of CCTV footages from the judicial complex and demanded accountability for those liable.

The opposition leader urged for the formation of an independent judicial commission to investigate the Hamoodur Rehman, Ojhri Camp, Abbottabad, and Army Public School incidents. He also highlighted the alleged interference in the judiciary, referencing the closure of social media accounts and the disappearance of the Rawalpindi commissioner.

He also highlighted incidents such as the intrusion into the PTI founder’s house and the targeting of the PTI government.

He said that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had confessed in an interview that they had a dialogue with former army chief Gen Bajwa.
