PTI ex-chairman priced himself at Rs38m in 2018, his current stated net worth is Rs315m

The details of his assets shared by the PTI founding chairman show an over Rs270 million increase when compared with 2018 – the year when last general elections were held – as he filed his nomination papers for the upcoming polls.

He had mentioned the value of his assets at Rs38.694m in the 2018 general elections’ nomination papers, which has now reached Rs315.95m, representing a massive jump, out which over Rs60m are in cash deposited with different banks of Islamabad.

Meanwhile, the related documents – an essential part of the nomination papers for national and provincial assemblies as well as Senate – show that the PTI former chairman doesn’t have any vehicle, but do own four goats valued at Rs0.2m.

According to the jailed PTI founder, he has inherited a seven kanals and five marlas house located at Zaman Park, Lahore, while the construction cost him another Rs48.6m.

At the same time, the 300-kanal estate at Bani Gala in Islamabad – where he mostly lives – too has been in his possession thanks to a gift – a repetition of the claim that the property was gifted to him by his former wife Jemima Khan.

However, he has mentioned an expenditure of over Rs3.9 million on renovating the house in the latest nomination papers submitted to the returning officer in Lahore.

At the same time, the PTI founder also owns another piece of land in Islamabad, much smaller in size though – six kanals and 16 marlas with a stated market value of over Rs5m.

Other assets in Islamabad include a Rs120m shop and a two-bed apartment which has been priced at Rs34m.

According to the documents, the items bought from Toshakhana – the famous pieces that resulted in a case – are valued at over Rs11.8m.

On the other hand, the PTI founding chairman says his wife – Bushra Bibi – is the owner of 698 kanal in Deepalpur and Pakpattan besides another three-kanal house located at Banigala.

However, he had shown total assets of Rs141m in the documents submitted to the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) in 2021, but the value had suddenly climbed to over Rs320m in 2022, which again shrunk slightly to Rs315.9m this year.

As far as the educational credentials and livelihood are concerned, he is a bachelor of arts (BA) in political science and a philanthropist by profession.

PTI founder says he wants to clear the air about 2014 sit-in

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder says he is ready to face an inquiry into the 2014 sit-in.

The PTI founder, who interacted with reporters at Adiala Jail a day after the ISPR presser, said he would be happy to appear before an inquiry committee. He said the allegations levelled against him regarding the dharna (sit-in) were wrong.

He said the 2013 election was the one of returning officers (ROs).

“How can one hold dialogue with the government after the caretaker prime minister’s statement about Form 47,” he said while calling the elections of prime minister, president, Punjab chief minister and Senate bogus.

Holding out an olive branch to the powers that be, he said half of his family had men in army and half bureaucrats. “This is our army and we have no issue with it. I came to know about the May 9 violence when I appeared in the Supreme Court,” he said.

He said he condemned the May 9 violence while being in the court of Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

The army, he said, should not be dragged in politics. “We have not resorted to arson in our 27-year history,” he said.

He said the PTI dissolved two governments. It did not want violence, he added.

Significance of media talk

The PTI founder’s media talk holds significance as it comes a day after Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry’s presser.

The ISPR once again said the perpetrators and facilitators of May 9 violence would have to face punishment in line with law and Constitution. The army, he said, had the evidence of wrongdoing.

He said May 9 was not Pakistan armed forces’ case but it was a case of all Pakistanis. An attempt was made to create hatred between the people of the country and armed forces, he said, adding that it’s essential to punish the perpetrators to keep faith in the judicial system intact.
