Tesla workers launch union campaign in New York

Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) workers in New York said on Tuesday they will launch a campaign to form a union, setting stage for the latest labor challenge for Chief Executive Elon Musk.
In a letter to Tesla management, the employees announced their plan to unionize with the Workers United Upstate New York.

The union, if formed, would be the first for Tesla, which up until now has managed to avoid unionization at its U.S. facilities unlike some other major automakers.

Musk has in the past been vocal about his opposition to unions and faced the ire of the U.S. National Labor Relations Board when they directed him to delete a 2018 tweet saying employees would lose their stock options if they formed a union.

“We believe unionizing will give us a voice in our workplace that we feel has been ignored to this point,” the workers said in a press release on Tuesday. “We are only asking for a seat in the car that we helped build.”

The letter, first reported by Bloomberg News earlier in the day, cited employees asking Tesla to respect their right to organize a union and called on the world’s most valuable automaker to sign the Fair Election Principles.

Employees said the right to organize a union is a fundamental civil right and the principles would prevent Tesla from threatening or retaliating against workers for organizing a union.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has denied rumours about the withdrawal of nomination papers by the ruling parties’ candidates for the election in Punjab.

“No such decision has been taken by the leadership [of the parties of the ruling alliance],” she said while dubbing reports “false” as well as “propaganda”.

Marriyum said the parties in the coalition government wanted elections across the country simultaneously but these reports were “baseless and concocted”. She also urged the media to verify from the spokespersons of the parties before publishing such news.

The parties in the coalition government would contest elections against Imran Khan in a befitting way, she said while calling him the “foreign agent fitna, thief of a wrist watch and a person who violated the constitution.”

Sheikh Rashid says next 72 hours crucial in national politics

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said on Thursday the next 72 hours were crucial as political temperature climbs up after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) launched its court arrest movement.

He said the nation had pinned hopes on the judiciary as it could drive the country out of the crises and penalise the thieves under the Constitution. His comment comes as the Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken a suo motu notice of delay in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections.

He said the PDM coalition was running away from elections while PTI chairman Imran Khan was insisting on polls in the country. “All, except Shehbaz Sharif, Asif Zardari and Fazlur Rehman, are concerned about Pakistan”.
